Dr. Nathaniel Koutlas is a fellowship-trained adult reconstruction surgeon with a focus on hip and knee replacement. He earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also completed his undergraduate studies in exercise and sport science. Dr. Koutlas completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and went on to pursue fellowship training in adult reconstruction at NorthShore Orthopaedic Institute in Skokie, Illinois.
During his training, Dr. Koutlas was recognized with multiple academic honors, including WakeMed Resident of the Year and the Paul F. Lachiewicz Medical Student Award for Orthopaedic Surgery. He has presented his research nationally, with contributions in areas such as fracture care, joint reconstruction, and outcomes in orthopedic trauma.
Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Koutlas enjoys spending time with his wife and their three children. In his free time, he likes playing golf, fishing, staying active, and reading military historical non-fiction.
